LOS ANGELES - The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) opened a new Public Comment proceeding.

According to ICANN, a visual string similarity review will be a part of the initial evaluation of the generic top-level domain (gTLD) application process. The goal of the review is to prevent user confusion and loss of confidence in the Domain Name System resulting from the delegation of visually similar strings. In preparation for the expanded scope, which will include variant strings in the next round of gTLDs, the ICANN organization is developing detailed guidelines and seeking the community's feedback.

Submissions Opening Date: February 7, 2024.

Submissions Closing Date: March 27, 2024.
