Management Board and Budget Committee Meetings Take Place at the EUIPO Premises

ALICANTE - The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO)’s Management Board and Budget Committee meetings took place from 16 to 18 November at (EUIPO) premises.

According to a press release by the Office, the EUIPO’s Management Board and Budget Committee are made up of representatives from the EU Member States, the European Commission and the European Parliament. Representatives from the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property, the European Patent Office, the World Intellectual Property Office, the Community Plant Variety Office and user associations attend as observers during the non-confidential parts of the meetings.

All delegations were able to participate in the meeting onsite. They greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet socially and network with peers after such a long period where this was impossible.

During the Management Board meeting, Members launched a selection procedure for two posts of Members of the Boards of Appeal of the Office and decided to extend the term of office of one member of the Boards of Appeal.

During the Management Board and Budget Committee Joint Meeting, Members approved the framework for establishing a multiannual contribution agreement with the European Commission under the Single Market Program for a period of 3 years (2022, 2023 and 2024).

The Management Board agreed on an update to the project definition of European Cooperation Project 6. The project now includes IP pre-diagnostic audit services in its project’s scope, as well as the European IP Information Centre and Alternative Dispute Resolution initiatives in its third work stream.

The Management Board also approved the Office’s 2022 work program and adopted a proposal for distributing the offsetting amount corresponding to the 2020 budget year.

Furthermore, the Draft Action Plan of the Boards of Appeal 2021-2026 was presented to the Delegates for discussion.

The Management Board also adopted the adapted Rules on the prevention and management of conflicts of interest for the Management Board and the Budget Committee.

During the Budget Committee meeting, Members elected the Deputy Chairperson of the Budget Committee whose 4-year term of office will start on 8 June 2022 and may be renewed once.

The Budget Committee was briefed on the budget impact of implementing the Office’s 2025 strategic plan.

Due to significant growth in the volume of applications and the corresponding workload, the BC Members adopted the Amending Budget No 2/2021. It included technical updates of all the budget components.

Members were also briefed on the Office’s 2022 work program and budget.

In addition, Delegates were updated on the state of play of the Office’s Treasury Management.

Finally, the Budget Committee approved the Office’s 2022 Budget for EUR 588 596 038.99.
