Abu-Ghazaleh: the World has to Coexist with COVID-19 for at Least Four Years

Special to AG-IP News Agency

AMMAN -Economic expert, Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global), called on all countries to coexist and live with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in a manner that ensures preservation of public health and safety, expecting that the pandemic will last for at least four years.

In a new episode of his weekly program (The World to Where?) aired on Russia Today (RT), Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said that the whole world will be forced to live with COVID-19 for years, and we should not be too optimistic about finding vaccines, against the novel pandemic, that will solve the world’s problems.

Commenting on statements issued by some politicians claiming that the COVID-19 crisis is on its way out, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said that these are mere assurances to avoid creating confusion, calling on all people to take precautionary measures to successfully overcome the crisis.

“I believe in the benefit of ‘positive anxiety’ as it motivates us to take preventive measures,” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh said, adding, “We have to realize that we are fighting a stubborn epidemic that spreads fast and easy, therefore we are all required to take necessary actions on the basis that we have to expect the pandemic’s worst impact for a prolonged period of time.”

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh urged countries not to underestimate the economic impact of Coronavirus, saying that saving lives is very important but saving the economy and not allowing the crisis to destroy it is important as well, and both should be addressed in parallel.

He also pointed out that any delay in addressing the economic challenges and the negative consequences could lead to a prolonged crisis, and countries would then be forced to deal with more complicated problems.

Concerning those who seek to utilize the corona crisis for profit, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh noted that some medical industries did flourish during the crisis, not to mention, tech companies, which also prospered during the pandemic.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh concluded that COVID-19 is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for pharmaceutical industries especially in their search for finding a vaccine, stating that developing and creating a drug or vaccine against Coronavirus could last for decades in some countries and the cost could reach billions of dollars (RT).
