Abu-Ghazaleh Chairs the Meetings of AIPMAS

AMMAN – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh chaired the extraordinary meeting of the board of directors and the general assembly of the Arab Intellectual Property Mediation and Arbitration Society (AIPMAS).

During the meeting, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh welcomed the board members  representing a number of institutions in Arab countries and affirmed the importance of enhancing and highlighting the value of trademarks. 

He recommended the inclusion of different Arab institutions in the training courses, pointing out the possibility of contracting with training and educational institutions to hold training courses for school and university students such as intellectual property awareness- raising  workshops  intellectual property in light of the increasing inventions and innovations in the era of knowledge. 

He also stressed the need for a review of the methods of trademark counting and evaluation in global organizations.
Furthermore, he called for the Society to cooperate with the Committee of the Arab Authority for Famous Names and TAG-Org's Website Development Department to develop a database of  famous Arabic names. A classification of marks in different fields should be established and communication with companies should take place through a questionnaire directed to all sectors of the community to collate opinions on their top ten trademarks in the Arab world. 

Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh launched the initiative of "the Arab Authority for Famous Names" and assigned Mr. Mutasim Dmour as its chairperson. This initiative's goal and vision are to enhance and highlight the importance of the value of trademarks in the entire world. 

The meeting included the adoption of the previous agenda and the reading of the auditors' report (Al Faysal for Auditing) by the auditor for the fiscal year ended on 31/12/2016 which resulted in the re-assignment of that auditor for the next year. 

Society Director Ms. Husaibah Sha'ban presented the society's activities for the year 2016-2017 including the cooperation with Al-Isra University, Estarta, the National center for Agricultural Research and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

AIPMAS was established in 1987 with the aim of promoting and developing the intellectual property system in Jordan and raising the competencies and knowledge of  professionals in this field. In addition, the Mediation and Arbitration Center of the Society works to solve intellectual property conflicts by international arbitrators who apply international rules.
