SQU Observes World Intellectual Property Day

MUSCAT - Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day, under the theme "Innovation for the Next Generation". The 2-day celebration was patronised over by Dr. Hilal bin Ali al-Hinai, Secretary-General of the Research Council, according to Oman News Agency.

Sheikha bint Nasser al-Akhzamiyah, Acting Director of Innovation at SQU said in her speech that the celebration of this day came to promote a culture of thought protection, out of a saying for His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the Builder of Oman's Renaissance, not to encroach thought, paving ways for Omani youth to freedom of thinking and expression and their protection as per the regulations in force internationally.

The intellectual property celebration included different activities and an exhibition which includes academic and educational innovation workshops specializing in IP education.

The celebration of World IP Day aims to increase awareness of the importance and impact of IP on daily life and increase understanding of how to protect intellectual property, its role in increasing creativity and innovation, to celebrate creativity and contributions of creative innovators to the development of communities and promoting respect for intellectual property rights. Dr. Hamad bin Sulaiman al-Salmi, SQU Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Administrative and Financial Affairs attended the event.
