Number of Registrants Reaches 290 in New gTLD Online Application System

MARINA DEL REY, CA - Rod Beckstrom, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)’s President and CEO wrapped up the organization’s 43rd public meeting in San Jose, Costa Rica by saying that the number of successful registrants in the new generic Top-Level Domain (gTLD) online application system has now climbed to 290. According to ICANN, each successful registrant can apply for up to 50 new generic Top-Level Domains. 

Beckstrom revealed the new registrant number during a video interview, which has been posted to the ICANN web site. He and Board Chair Dr. Stephen Crocker answered a broad range of questions on subjects extending from the new gTLD program, to conflicts of interest, to the status of the search for a new CEO. 

ICANN’s mission is to ensure a stable, secure and unified global Internet.
