TORONTO, ONTARIO - Cleanfield Alternative Energy Inc. announced in a press release that the US Patent and Trademark Office has assigned patent number (US 8,013,464 B2) to Cleanfield for VAWT’s defined as a "power generating system including modular wind turbine-generator assembly."

The abstract of the patent published by the US Patent and Trademark Office states: "A power generating system for generating electricity from the kinetic energy of a wind flow. The power generating system includes a turbine assembly, and a generator assembly, and may provided a main brake assembly, as well as an emergency brake assembly. The system includes a series of modular components, which can be built  and adjusted in a modular manner so as to alter the configuration of the system, and thus maximize a generation of electricity by the system, depending on the particular conditions of the wind flow.

Other improvements reside in the mounting spokes and aerodynamic blades of the system, as well as in its main brake assembly."

In addition to the US patent, Cleanfield also has provisional patent applications for
Canada and Europe.

Cleanfield’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Verrelli commented, "We believe the awarding of the US patent positions Cleanfield as the dominate VAWT company with a commercially proven product and broad patent coverage.

This patent essentially covers any and all vertical axis wind turbines sold in the US and
Cleanfield is prepared to vigorously defend its intellectual property rights."

Cleanfield is an innovative technology company focused on the research, development
and distribution of renewable energy solutions for the urban environment.
