Viscount Systems Files Additional Patent Claims

BURNABY, British Columbia - Viscount Systems Inc., a high technology supplier of security systems and software, announced in a press release that the company has filed 20 new supplemental patent claims in addition to the 23 claims filed on December 2, 2010.

The new claims expand the concept of a unified identity management platform to include not only physical building security systems such as access control, CCTV and fire alarm, but also building control and automation systems as well. These include HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and any other building control system requiring user identities and passwords to manage or program systems.

“One of the most important security issues facing large government and corporate clients is the management of identities,” noted Stephen Pineau, President and CEO of Viscount Systems. “As industries migrate to IP devices it seems logical that having a single management tool within the IT system is more secure and efficient than having many different passwords and identities. With HVAC alone representing a worldwide market approaching $80 billion, these patents could have an immense value for Viscount Systems in the future.”

Pineau further stated, “One of the main claims made in our patent filings in December of last year was the concept that physical security could be managed as a unified logical security application. Although the concept seems both radical and revolutionary our ideas were certainly validated at the ISC West Security Conference where we won Convergence Solution of the Year. The concept of a unified identity platform has been met with great enthusiasm with both government and corporate entities.”

Viscount Systems Inc., designs unified software platforms for building security and emergency planning. The company was recently awarded the 2011 Convergence Solution of the Year by the Security Industry Association (SIA) and the Platinum Award for Emergency Response and Gold Award for Access Control at GOVSEC 2011.
