WASHINGTON, DC - The Business Software Alliance (BSA) welcomed President Obama’s announcement that he will appoint Steve VanRoekel to be Federal Chief Information Officer while praising the accomplishments of outgoing CIO Vivek Kundra, the first person to hold the post.

“I congratulate President Obama for choosing Steve VanRoekel as the next Federal CIO,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman. “VanRoekel’s knowledge of the technology sector and his previous experience in government will surely serve him well as he takes the baton from Vivek Kundra, who established a remarkable record of accomplishment as the country’s first Federal CIO.”

“Kundra has been a true pioneer,” Holleyman said. “With initiatives such as his drive to promote federal adoption of cloud-computing solutions and his affirmation of the critical principle of technology neutrality, he has helped lay the policy groundwork for a new era of IT innovation in government and the broader economy. Kundra has created tremendous momentum on key technology issues; VanRoekel can now build on that legacy.”
