Widevine Issued Milestone 60th Patent

SEATTLE, WA - Widevine, a provider of digital entertainment solutions, announced in a press release that the company has reached a patenting milestone by logging its 60th patent issued worldwide.

“System, Method, and Apparatus for Securely Providing Content Viewable on a Secure Device” (US Patent 7,640,435), covers technologies that allow consumers to enjoy High Definition (HD) entertainment securely over the Internet. The premium content may be viewed using Internet connected consumer electronics and mobile devices.

The patent brings new innovation to online entertainment by allowing content owners to confidently deliver video to consumers anywhere and on any device. Obtaining its 60th patent marks Widevine’s progress in developing digital media innovations through its multimillion-dollar research and development efforts.

“This milestone patent marks the continued innovation we have achieved in our portfolio of digital media solutions in the past few years,” said Mani Aliabadi, general counsel for Widevine. “Through our extensive patent portfolio, we are able to confidently license our products to the industry, while increasing the availability of our innovations and providing solutions to customers backed with the seal of patented approval.”

Widevine plays a central role in the delivery of video to Internet-connected retail consumer electronics and the “TV Everywhere” strategies of cable, satellite and telephone companies. The company’s software platform optimizes the entertainment experience for content delivered over any network to any device. The solution is natively supported in nearly all major brands and types of network connected consumer electronics including televisions, Blu-ray players, mobile devices, gaming systems and more.

"We are very excited that the US Patent and Trademark Office continues to recognize Widevine's innovation in the areas of video entertainment. With this new patent, Widevine can further ensure our customers can securely expand their distribution to retail consumer electronics with an unequaled level of content security," said Brian Baker, Widevine CEO. "Widevine has proven we are not only the market leaders, but that we also have one of the most talented concentrations of content security expertise in the world."
