SAN CLEMENTE, CA - ICU Medical Inc., a leading low cost manufacturer of safe medical connectors, custom medical products and critical care devices, announced on Thursday that it had reached an agreement to settle an action against Fulwider Patton Lee & Utecht LLP.

According to a press release by the company, it alleged that during the course of its representation of the company and continuing thereafter, Fulwider engaged in various matters for the company's direct competitors, and committed other acts of negligence and breaches of the attorney-client relationship.

Fulwider did not admit any liability or wrongdoing. The company will be paid $8 million in settlement of its claims against Fulwider.

ICU Medical was founded in 1984 by Dr. George Lopez, a practicing internist who imagined that there must be a better way of securing IV lines after tragically losing a patient due to an accidental disconnect. With a market cap of close to 500 million, ICU has an impressive list of landmark products including the CLAVE NeedleFree Connector and the CLC2000 Catheter Patency Device. Still led by Dr. Lopez, ICU is solely focused on developing and manufacturing products that not only protect the Health Care worker from accidental needle sticks, but protect the integrity of the patient’s IV system as well.
