MAKATI CITY - The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IP Philippines) launched a series of activities for the month to celebrate the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) week slated on October 22 to 26.
With the theme “Great Idea! Intellectual Property Rights Week Celebrates Creativity”, the month-long calendar of events includes the Open House series of the Office, activities that are open to the public such as IPRs seminars, art competition, exhibitions and storytelling sessions; international seminars on patent; training programs under the Intellectual Property Rights Protection (IPROTECT) Training and other activities.
“Most of our programs for this year’s IPRs celebration involve the youth. This is part of IP Philippines’ program to intensify public information and education campaign on the importance of IPR in promoting creativity, innovation and competitiveness, and educate our people, particularly this sector of society,” Director General of IP Philippines Adrian S. Cristobal said.
“These young people are our future scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs and artists, the future IP generators,” he added.
“Presidential Proclamation 79 (1992), which declared the last week of October as the IPRs week, acknowledges the dominant role technology plays in influencing international economies and trades,” Cristobal continued.
“IP Philippines celebrates the contributions of our scientists, inventors, trademark owners, and artists in this arena. Through the month-long calendar of events to mark the IPR Week, we underscore the importance of their creations in our daily lives,” he highlighted.
The Patent Helpdesk, an Open House series designed to assist scientists and inventors, has two patent examiners on hand to answer queries on IPRs and patent granting procedure.
IP Philippines in partnership with Levi Strauss Philippines Inc., on its second year, will hold the “Art in Denim” contest for elementary, high school and college students at the Market! Market! Activity Center on October 7. The competition, which aims to instill awareness and respect for IPRs among the youth, will have 6 Cycle Mind, Pedicab and Duster as guest performers.
During the IPRs week, two international patent seminars will take place, organized and participated in by the Office. IP Philippines and the European Patent Office (EPO) will hold the patent search and examination seminar on October 22 to 26 with the theme, “Regional Workshop on Search and Examination in the field of Nanotechnology – Electronics and Chemistry”.
