NEW DELHI - The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will hold the national roundtable entitled “The Economics of Intellectual Property” March 6 -7, 2007 in New Delhi.
The meeting will discuss a wide range of topics such as; the role of patents in promoting innovation and technology development, Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and knowledge transfer from public research organizations and universities to industry, IPRs, foreign direct investment and international technology transfer, the economics of copyright and methodologies for the valuation and diffusion of technology (e.g. patent citation analysis related rights, empirical, patent renewal models).
Speaking at the meeting are highly experienced and senior-level decision makers from the Americas, India and the UK. Representatives from WIPO are Acting Director, Intellectual Property and Economic Development Division Pushpendra Rai and Program Officer, Intellectual Property and Economic Development Division Esteban Burrone.
Other speakers are Professor of Economics and Chairman of Economics Department, University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado, United States of America Dr. Keith Maskus, Professor of Economics and Director of the Program on Productivity, Innovation and Intellectual Property, London School of Economics, London Dr. Mark Schankerman and representatives from the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, Government of India.
